Positioned in the center of Lake Walk, Kanji Sushi offers more than just a dining experience; it reflects the visionary planning and vibrant lifestyle of Bryan/College Station’s premier master-planned community. Chef Tai Lee, owner of Kanji Sushi, sat down with our team to share his inspiring journey from Texas A&M student to celebrated restaurateur and how Lake Walk has become the perfect stage for his modern Japanese cuisine.
After graduating from Texas A&M’s Mays Business School, Chef Tai had planned to pursue a career in corporate America until a professor, impressed by his culinary skills, encouraged him to consider opening a restaurant. That pivotal suggestion led him to found some of the most beloved restaurants in Aggieland. Today, Kanji Sushi is an exploration of the senses dedicated to bringing high-quality, healthy Japanese cuisine to the region.
“When we were first introduced to Lake Walk by Spencer Clements, we loved The Stella Hotel and the overall vision of the area,” Chef Tai recalls. “The thoughtfulness in selecting businesses that align with the community’s core principles really resonated with us.”
Kanji Sushi aligns seamlessly with Lake Walk’s emphasis on excellence, health, and lifestyle. From meticulously crafted sushi rolls to creative fusion dishes, Kanji’s menu embraces modern culinary techniques while honoring traditional Japanese cuisine. Chef Tai sees his restaurant as a key piece in the larger puzzle that makes Lake Walk a thriving destination.
“Lake Walk’s focus on bringing world-class retail and businesses to Bryan/College Station is inspiring,” he says. “We’re proud to be part of this vibrant community and to contribute to its growing reputation.”
Chef Tai’s long-term commitment to the future of Lake Walk is mirrored by his passion to continue growing Kanji Sushi as the premier modern Japanese culinary experience in Texas. With new developments underway at Lake Walk, including expansive Class A+ multi-tenant office spaces like The Lumin and additional retail projects, Kanji is poised for continued growth within the community.
“We’re already seeing the fruition of plans set in motion years ago,” Chef Tai shares. “The influx of businesses and visitors is creating a dynamic environment, and it’s exciting to be a part of that evolution.”
For Chef Tai, Lake Walk is more than a location—it’s a lifestyle. “Lake Walk embodies a sense of community and a commitment to excellence that we share at Kanji Sushi,” he says. “As Lake Walk continues to grow, we’re excited to grow with it and to play a role in making this area a true destination.”
From its origins to its future, Kanji Sushi is a reflection of Chef Tai’s passion and Lake Walk’s vision. Together, they create a dining experience and a community atmosphere that is unmistakably world-class.
