Comcast-Xfinity Launches Fiber Network Across Brazos Valley with Lake Walk Groundbreaking

Comcast-Xfinity Expands Fiber Network Across Brazos Valley with Lake Walk Groundbreaking

In a place where ranches back up to research parks and Western boutiques neighbor biotech startups, Lake Walk has become a setting where lifestyle and innovation meet. So, it felt fitting that Lake Walk was the site of Comcast-Xfinity’s official groundbreaking ceremony for a new fiber network that promises to transform how the Brazos Valley connects, learns, and conducts business.

Hosted at the Lake Walk Pavilion and against a backdrop of Lake Atlas and the Central Texas sky, Comcast-Xfinity executives joined local leaders to announce a project that is as much about infrastructure as it is about identity. More than 1,000 miles of fiber will soon thread across Bryan-College Station and surrounding rural areas, bringing multi-gigabit internet speeds to over 70,000 homes and businesses.

“It’s so exciting to be here in Bryan-College Station today. We’re celebrating a big milestone; the groundbreaking for our fiber-optic project to bring services throughout the community,” announced Nicolas Jimenez, general market manager for Bryan-College Station, told KBTX. “We’re going to be able to deliver multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds, the fastest internet around, and a whole bunch of amazing services like mobile phone, video, home security for homes and businesses.”

College Station Mayor John Nichols called the expansion a game-changer for education and entrepreneurship in the region. His counterpart, Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez, echoed the sentiment, noting that infrastructure like this helps level the playing field between larger metros and emerging tech hubs like Aggieland.

“This investment in connectivity strengthens our local economy and helps our residents thrive. Expanding reliable high-speed Internet in Bryan will open doors for students, businesses, and families. It will enhance opportunities and improve quality of life,” City of Bryan Mayor Bobby Guiterrez told reporters at the event.

A Fiber-Forward Future

What Comcast-Xfinity is building is no small undertaking. Along with the expansive new fiber backbone, the company will launch a dedicated technology hub, a new Xfinity retail experience, and extend its Internet Essentials program aimed at bridging the digital divide for lower-income residents.

The $30 million local investment is part of Comcast-Xfinity’s broader $1.6 billion push across Texas over the past three years. And it is not just urban Bryan and College Station on the roadmap. Officials like Commissioner Bentley Nettles emphasized the importance of reaching rural Brazos County, where reliable internet can still be hard to come by.

In many ways, Lake Walk itself is a microcosm of what this buildout represents. It is part town square, part tech campus, a place where lifestyle and innovation are designed to intersect. By choosing this spot for their ceremonial start, Comcast-Xfinity was marking not just a project milestone but acknowledging that Lake Walk is an essential piece of the Bryan-College Station economy.
