The Texas A&M College Move-In Guide: Getting Settled in Bryan-College Station

Every August, Bryan-College Station changes gears.

Moving trucks fill apartment parking lots, parents make emergency runs for extension cords and shower curtains, grocery stores get considerably busier, and thousands of new Aggies begin learning the geography of a community they will soon call home.

For students arriving at Texas A&M University for Fall 2026, the first day of classes is Monday, August 24. Texas A&M’s official on-campus move-in period runs August 18 through August 22, giving students a few days to unpack, find their classrooms, learn their routes to campus, and figure out which box the coffee maker ended up in.

Whether you are moving into a residence hall, an apartment or a house, here is a practical guide to making the transition to life in Bryan-College Station a little easier.

Before You Arrive in Aggieland

Students living on campus should pay close attention to their Texas A&M email and the MyHousing Portal. Residence Life requires students to complete the Annual Housing Orientation before receiving a move-in appointment, and students then schedule their arrival time through the housing portal.

For the 2026 move-in period, Texas A&M is also bringing back volunteer assistance for the first time since 2019. Volunteers will be stationed throughout campus neighborhoods from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the August 18-22 move-in period to help students and families navigate the process.

Students living off campus should confirm their individual lease start date and move-in instructions directly with their apartment community. Apartment move-in dates do not necessarily match the university’s schedule.

Before leaving home, it is worth confirming utilities, internet service, renters insurance, parking arrangements, apartment access instructions, and whether your unit comes furnished. It is much easier to discover that your apartment does not include a desk before you are standing in an empty bedroom.

Have a Texas A&M Parking and Transportation Plan

Parking is practically an Aggie elective.

Texas A&M’s regular 2026-27 student parking registration has already closed, but students who missed registration can access the university’s waitlist process, which opens August 1. Freshmen are generally assigned to Lot 100, Polo Road Garage, and West Campus Garage, depending on availability.

During on-campus move-in, temporary loading areas are available near residence halls. Texas A&M asks families to unload their belongings, move the vehicle, and then return to carry items inside. Vehicles left in a move-in drop-off zone for more than one hour can be relocated, and trailers are not permitted in the temporary drop-off areas.

Students who plan to use AggieSpirit buses should familiarize themselves with their route before the first morning of class. Texas A&M’s Bus Routes app provides maps, departure information, and real-time bus locations. Students boarding at off-campus stops should also have their Texas A&M, Blinn, or Brazos Transit District identification available.

A practice commute before August 24 is a very good idea. A route that looks simple on Google Maps can feel quite different when tens of thousands of Aggies are attempting it simultaneously.

Make the Apartment Feel Like Home

For students moving into off-campus communities such as Lake Walk at Traditions, Asher at College Station, or Global College Station, move-in weekend is about more than carrying furniture upstairs.

Lake Walk at Traditions, which sits next to the Lake Walk town center, offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments and positions residents close to Texas A&M, the BioCorridor, RELLIS Campus, and the growing businesses in the area.

Asher at College Station is another newer residential option in the Traditions area, with one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments and townhomes. Its location puts residents near Texas A&M, Easterwood Airport, the BioCorridor, and Lake Walk.

Global College Station is designed specifically around student life, offering furnished apartments with private bedroom-bathroom suites, study spaces, fitness facilities, and other student-oriented amenities.

These communities also illustrate one of the advantages of living in Bryan-College Station: the campus does not have to be the center of everything you do. Exploring beyond the university can make a new city feel like home.

Find Your Place Beyond Campus at Lake Walk

One destination worth discovering early is Lake Walk.

Located in Bryan near Texas A&M, Easterwood Airport, and the Traditions area, Lake Walk combines restaurants, coffee, outdoor spaces, businesses, wellness destinations, and community programming around Lake Atlas and the Lake Walk Pavilion.

For students living at Lake Walk at Traditions and Asher, Lake Walk can quickly become part of the weekly routine. Students living elsewhere around Bryan-College Station, including communities such as Global College Station, will also find it an easy change of scenery when they want to get away from campus without leaving town.

There are walking paths around the district, lawns and outdoor spaces for meeting friends, and a calendar that offers considerably more than another night staring at the apartment television.

Start the Morning at POV Coffee House

Every college student eventually develops a relationship with a coffee shop.

At Lake Walk, that place is POV Coffee House.

POV serves specialty coffee, espresso drinks, teas, pastries, sandwiches, wraps and grab-and-go options. Wi-Fi is available with purchase, making it equally useful for a quick coffee before class, an afternoon study session or meeting up with classmates somewhere outside the library. The coffee house also features local art and seasonal drinks.

It also plays an important role in Lake Walk’s community programming, including serving as the unofficial finish line for one of the district’s most popular weekly traditions.

Eat, Shop, Recharge, and Stay at Lake Walk

Once the boxes are unpacked, Lake Walk offers plenty of reasons to stick around. The Stella Hotel, a 176-room Marriott Autograph Collection property and AAA Four Diamond hotel, is an especially convenient option for parents and family visiting Bryan-College Station for move-in, football weekends, Ring Day, graduation, and everything in between.

When it is time to eat, Kanji Sushi brings Chef Tai’s modern approach to Japanese cuisine to Lake Walk, serving lunch and dinner with fresh fish flown in from around the world. Campfire Restaurant at The Stella serves Texas-inspired food built around regional ingredients, locally farmed beef, smoked proteins, and seafood, making it a great option when parents are in town and dining-hall food simply will not do.

Students can also stop into 6Whiskey, Lake Walk’s modern Western boutique offering men’s and women’s apparel, boots, accessories, home goods, and plenty of Texas style. With brands including Texas Standard and Old Gringo, plus Aggie gear and regular in-store events, it is a good place to find something for game day or upgrade your wardrobe beyond the standard college uniform of shorts and a T-shirt.

Together, these businesses make Lake Walk more than somewhere to visit for an event. It can become part of a student’s regular Bryan-College Station routine, whether that means Pilates after class, sushi with friends, shopping before game day, dinner with visiting parents, or a much-needed spa day after midterms.

Meet People at Lake Walk Run Club

Finding your community is one of the biggest parts of moving to college, and not every friendship has to begin in a classroom.

Lake Walk Run Club meets every Friday at 6:30 a.m. at the Lake Walk Pavilion and is open to runners of all experience levels. The social run finishes with participants gathering for coffee afterward at POV Coffee House. Participation is free.

For a student new to Bryan-College Station, it is exactly the kind of low-pressure activity that makes meeting people easier. You can show up alone, get some exercise, meet people from throughout the community, and still have most of Friday ahead of you.

Yes, 6:30 a.m. is early. College is about expanding your horizons.

Reset on Saturday Morning with Community Yoga

College life can get hectic quickly, making Lake Walk Community Yoga an easy way to slow things down and start the weekend outside. Every Saturday morning, the Lake Walk Pavilion lawn becomes an open-air yoga studio for a free community class designed for all experience levels, from longtime yogis to students trying it for the first time.

Community Yoga runs from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and is open to the public. Just bring a yoga mat, a bottle of water, and a willingness to trade the classroom for an hour outdoors.

For students new to Bryan-College Station, it is also another easy way to meet people beyond campus while exploring the Lake Walk community. After class, grab coffee at POV Coffee House, walk the trails around Lake Atlas, or make a morning of it with friends.

Put Lake Walk Events on Your Calendar

Lake Walk maintains a year-round calendar of concerts, markets, fitness activities, and community gatherings, giving students something to do beyond campus organizations and football weekends.

The Eats & Beats concert series brings free live music to the Pavilion, with the final Summer 2026 concert scheduled for August 29 from 6 to 9 p.m., just days after classes begin.

Lake Walk also hosts outdoor wellness programming, including Community Yoga, along with live music, seasonal celebrations, and special events throughout the year. The district’s Pavilion serves as the center of much of that activity.
