Wellness is Here: Lake Walk Community Yoga

Wellness is Here at Lake Walk, Community Yoga Every Saturday at 8 AM

Lake Walk has become a sanctuary for those seeking wellness, community, and connection. Its thoughtfully designed master-planned community encourages people to get outside, whether it be for a brisk walk with a coworker to grab a comforting seasonal coffee from POV Coffee House, or to join one of the many wellness groups that call Lake Walk home. Leading one of Lake Walk’s largest wellness programs is Kenya Bracamontes, Lake Walk’s head yoga instructor, whose personal journey with yoga inspires this thriving community.

Kenya’s story begins in Chihuahua, Mexico, where the discovery of yoga VHS tapes in her mother’s closet set her on a path toward self-discovery. “With the anxiety of staying by myself and learning how to be more independent, I started practicing yoga every day,” Kenya shares. After moving to the U.S. and deepening her practice through watching YouTube and training at local studios, she became certified to teach in 2019.

Kenya first discovered the wellness-centered community of Lake Walk during the 2019 International Day of Yoga. Interested in deepening her practice of yoga, she found herself immediately captivated by the experience of practicing yoga in a serene outdoor setting overlooking Lake Atlas. “Being able to deepen my practice in nature was so incredible,” she recalls. By 2024, Kenya had become the head instructor of Community Yoga at Lake Walk, leading free yoga classes every Saturday morning at 8 a.m.

For Kenya, yoga at Lake Walk embodies more than physical fitness—it’s a holistic approach to wellness. “It’s not only beneficial for your physical health but also for your mental health,” she explains. Practicing in a carefully cultivated, natural setting like the Lake Walk Pavillion allows participants to feel at ease, refreshed, and accomplished.

As Kenya explains, yoga is just one piece of the wellness mosaic at Lake Walk. From walking trails and The Lookout Tower to The Local artisan markets and concerts, Lake Walk offers something for everyone. “People of all walks of life can find something enjoyable to do here,” Kenya notes. Whether it’s a staycation at The Stella Hotel, a rejuvenating massage at Woodhouse Spa, or coffee with friends at POV, Lake Walk provides endless opportunities to connect and recharge.

This commitment to wellness is only growing. With plans to expand its wellness initiatives in 2025, Lake Walk is quickly becoming the center for the wellness community in the Bryan-College Station area. Events like the Active Texan races, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and the monthly run club are just a few ways Lake Walk brings people together in the spirit of well-being.
